“Deus ex Machina (god from the machine) roared into Australia’s cultural consciousness in 2006, with some neatly customised motorcycles and a quaint notion that doing something is more fun than just owning something. Deus (“day-us”) didn’t set out only to sell custom parts and hand-built motorcycles, but to celebrate a culture of creativity. The Deus ex Machina.”
Deus’s culture centres around creativity, adventure, challenge and thrill; taking place on tracks, dirt roads, waves and sand. Six designs were created as a nod to each of these aspects of the brand, incorporating a range of illustration styles, aesthetics, custom lettering and graphic treatments. Each design was mocked up onto a tee and submitted to the QuaranTEE competition.
Whilst none were selected as a winning entry, the exploration of themes and design was a welcome creative distraction from the gloomy events and monotonous lockdown restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020.
